Example
Before
Draft status: pending.
After
Replace “pending” with “ready.”
What to check
- Matching is case-sensitive.
- Complex regular expressions can be slow on very large text.
How this cleaner works
Literal replacement is the default and replaces every exact match with the replacement text. It is appropriate for names, labels, repeated phrases, and simple separators. Nothing changes when the Find field is empty.
Regular-expression mode is explicitly advanced. The pattern and flags are passed to the browser’s regular-expression engine; invalid syntax fails closed and returns the original text. Complex patterns can still take a long time on large input, so begin with a small sample and keep the original.
Useful for
- Replacing repeated terms
- Changing separators in a list
- Pattern-based cleanup by experienced users
Common questions
Is literal replacement case-sensitive?
Yes. Literal mode replaces every exact occurrence and leaves differently cased text alone.
What happens with an invalid regular expression?
TextClean shows an error and returns the original text without applying partial changes.
Can I use capture groups?
Yes. In regular-expression mode, browser-supported replacement patterns such as $1 can be used.
